I just got a Holux GR-230 and I use it with Palm Tungsten T and Fugawi or Mapopolis. After some troubles the connection is now working fine and the usage seems to be easy (for a BT newbie). But...

For hiking I would like to use my Palm with Fugawi and 24'000 maps which I got running fine but as soon as I turn the Palm off, the BT connection can only be brought up by turning the GPS off and then deleting the trusted device and "install" the GR-230 again on the palm and go.. Or just close the program (Fugawi) and turn off the Palm and when used again, turn off and on the GPS and then the turn on the Palm and open Fugawi to connect.

Is there an easier way to turn the palm off and on without having to turn the GPS off and on?
On a several hour hike I only need to check the map 10-20 times and if every time I have to take the GPS off the backpack and on and off and... ufffff.

Is that a Palm, a BT or a GR-230 issue?

Thanks for any comments!

I have only just started using an Emtac BTGPS with my Palm Tungsten T2. So far, it appears that most apps (cotoGPS, GPS Pilot Tracker, Digi-Map etc) seem happy to reconnect to the Emtac when the Palm is switched off then on again i.e. I don't seem to be getting the problem you describe. I have never had to re-estiablish the BTGPS as a 'trusted' device. So it might be a GR230 issue.

I don't know the GPS' you are using (and in the past have found the opposite in terms of the order of shutdown - palm before GPS otherwise crash), but would just say that 90% of the problems I get with T3/BT GPS are related either to Com port problems (in how BT connection is setup ie on T3) or comms getting out of sync as described in the thread below:
