Hi there,

I have a Garmin Nuvi and to date I have downloaded the speed camera files that split the gatsos, truvelos etc by speed zones. Reason being that I don't always know the limit in a given area.

However, it is VERY annoying as the Nuvi beeps almost constantly when I'm about a mile away from a camera if I am doing 1mph over the limit. And traffic light cameras also mean the Nuvi expels more beeps than rave in 1989.

Will using a different databse stop this, or will my Nuvi then just tell me that there is a camera up ahead but without telling me the relevant speed limit?

Thanks

If you use the poiloader version of the database and download ASH10's utility where you can adjust the time of the beeps or turn them off.

Ooh, I'm a bit confused (and not best bright). I've downloaded the database that contains 24 files - the speed zoned ones. I had of course first selected Garmin from the list of devices.

When installing the files through POILoader I selected 'Manual' installation and changed the notifaction from the default 'alert when speed over x' to the distance based optio,

Does this effectively do what the ASH10 utility does? If not, where do I download it and how to I use it?

Many thanks,

Tom

Apologies, I've just found the sticky.

Looks like a nice bit of software.

I will try it out.

Just been looking at it. Will it mean that the icons (which include the speed limits) get pver written by the icons used in Camera Manager?

Alternatively you can use CBROM's utility. I don't think it has quite so many options as ASH's, but the speed camera warnings are very similar to what you get as default. IE. the icons and speed are displayed if you are within 5mph of or exceeding the speed limit. The big difference is that you can alter how far away from the camera you get the initial warning.

I found that as standard, the warnings were being given far too early, but using CBROM's utility, that aspect is easily amended.

I have tried ASH10's utility, which I think will still display the camera icon as long as you are doing more than 2mph (some people preferred to still be able to see the camera icon when they were crawling in traffic).

Not sure what other differences there are between the two programs, but hats off to both for taking the time and effort to help us all.

Alternatively, you could use those lovely round signs with a red outline and big black numbers inside that tell you what the limit is in EVERY area. They are there, you just need to look around every so often. Wink Rolling Eyes
