hey fellows
i have a old magellan gps 2000.a frind of mine got it
free when he bought a 4 wheeler.he never used it,
it is still brand new.he gave it to me.so i have been
trying to get it to work but it just aint happening.
the proublem i am haveing is geting it to initialize.
i will enter the latitude, then the longitude, then
it says to enter elevation if you know it. or press
enter if you dont know to accept the preset setting.
i didnt know it so i just press enter.then you enter the
time and date.then your ready to take your first position
fix. thats where i`m haveing trouble.it will search for the
sat but will never finish it just keeps on searching.i go out
in a wide open field to make sure nothing is blocking the
signal.i have left it on for a long time but it does not ever
take that first position fix. i must be doing something wrong.
can anyone help me? thanks. |

The Magellan 2000 is getting a little long in the tooth to be honest. If you've inserted fresh batteries and followed the initialisation procedure correctly (it can take up to an hour to acquire a first fix) without success then it sounds like a hardware problem.
Is yours the Green or Grey display type? The Green LCD models are nearly 6 years old by now. They replaced them with Grey LCD Screens in '99. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Stick it in the garden with a good view of the sky and give it a good hour. If it still has not acquired a fix after that then it has a hardware problem _________________ Darren Griffin |
