This application acts as a host for file transfer to and from the PDA device, you can also use it for back-up/ restore and copying contacts database etc.
In practice I only use it when forced to (installing software), the back-up it provides is useless in my opinion, you need access to the PC to restore, not easy if you are out on the road. - Mike

Hi as Mike said, its to syncronise your PDA, with the computer, and to download programs onto the PDA, And perform backups, or restore at the PC. But if you are away from the PC, then you cant restore your PDA, so I use Sprite backup. With sprite you can make a self extracting file (pdf file I think It's called) and store it on the SD card. Then if the battery dies when you are away from home, charge it up, and open the sprite file, and everything is back on your PDA. At the end of the month, I download the new camera database, with active sync, then do a back up, with active sync, then do a back up with sprite, and store it on the SD card.

Agree with all of the above but I still need to sync daily. ActiveSync is still by far the better way to sync any changes to PPC/Outlook. Contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, IE favorites and documents. Sprite is useless if your PPC is lost. I would hate to loose all this data and start over. Furthermore Outlook items can be exported as backups. Saved my bacon before re: ROM upgrade.
