I've successfully loaded the camera database no problem, it's damn useful and I also downloaded and put in a whole bunch of POI's from here (http://www.MaFt.co.uk/garmin/)

The only problem I'm finding though is the nagging problem that I load the non-speed camera POI's into the database... (things like McDonalds, PCworld, ASDA, Parking areas etc), I am selecting in the Garmin POI loader that the file contains NO PROXIMITY or SPEED data and yet when I drive past a McDonalds it keeps beeping at me which is a little annoying and distracting to say the least!!! It would be much better if the icon just showed itself when it was within a certain distance but would not beep because it isn't really something to alert me about..

Does anyone know if this is possible.. alerts for SPEED CAMERAS, YES!! But no alerts for MCDONALDS and other placemark POIs!!!

Thanks to everyone in advance!

This was a problem with one of the versions of POI loader. There has been a recent update that is supposed to have fixed it.

Hi again,

Thanks for your reply... I've just looked at the garmin poiloader download page again and I've seen version 2.3.2 is out... (as of August 4, 2006)

http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=927

One of changelog entries is "Fixed an issue where alerts were being created for all POIs."

I guess this will fix our problem!!!

I will install, load the POI's and let you know how I go, I have to go out tomorrow so it'll be a good test with speed camera warnings and other POI's...

Thanks anyways!!!

I haven't used ver 2.3.2 yet but I fixed the problem by using POI Loader in Manual mode and giving McDonalds etc waypoints a Proximity Alert Distance of 0 metres.

Ok, I went out yesterday and I can confirm that using version 2.3.2 of Garmin's POILoader will fix the non-speed camera POI alerts from going off..

Thanks for the replies everyone, have fun!
