Garmin 310D Mapsource City Navigator Europe Disk What is it?

Please can anyone advise what the Map Disk does?

I've only just got the unit and it has UK & Ireland on it does this cover Europe.

Sorry if stupid question

The Nuvi 310D is pre-loaded with UK and Ireland mapping. The DVD contains maps of Europe. If you install Mapsource onto your PC (need to unlock it) you can then download selected maps to the Nuvi 310D. Nuvi 310D only has a limited amount of storage but you can save them to SD card. I bought a 512 MB SD card from Amazon for about 13 pounds (SANDisk)

Hi

Are the maps on the CD different to the maps pre-loaded on the nuvi310D? My 310D had European maps pre-loaded on the internal memory but perhaps these are only major roads? Is there any way of checking (apart from roaming around the map). With just maps and essential firmware the internal memory is about half full.

The Nuvi 310 D only has limited storage - I think its about 200 MB, so cannot store all the maps in Europe. I assume you bought the unit in the UK so should be pre-stored with UK and Ireland maps. You can check by selecting

- Menu
- Map
-Map info

It should show a checked box with "City Navigator Europe NT+ v8

[1] UK & Ireland (Pre-loaded)

I've loaded maps from France , Belgium etc using mapsource to a 512 MB SD card so it shows

[2] GENT, BELGIE.....

Thanks, I tried once to transfer maps to an SD card but this kept making my computer crash, it wasn't happy with the SD card and generated an error message every minute or so (I am using Windows ME which might be something to do with it).

Checked the menu as you suggested and I think it must be preloaded with UK and Ireland but with the main roads of Europe as well. I definately have some form of European mapping pre-loaded but in the menu screen it only shows UK & Ireland.

As you say might be SD card doesn't like windows ME.

You could try saving an area of say France to the Nuvi hard drive. The extra maps are saved to a supplimentary file. Preloaded maps are in a base file Laughing
