Which Map are you trying to add?
Is it a non-European Map?

Once you install the map and select that map then you will be prompted for the activation code if one is needed.

Trying to add an Italy map. Have tried both a manual copy on to the device and then an install using the TomTom Home client.
Can't see the map, can't see where to input the activation code that the TomTom site says is the final step of the install process |

Doesn't the 700 already have a Street Level Map of Italy?
If required, the Activation Process comes when you want to use the Map the first time. In your case it might be that you just need to do a pin-in-the-hole Reset.

Why are you adding a map of Italy? The 700 already has it pre-installed in the Western Europe Map Folder
