|
|
Just got my TT tonight and am left with that sinking feeling. Plugged in the SD card turned it on and................................I'm stuck. Only gets as far as the screen for choosing your language and it freezes, the top half of the screen seems distorted, the bottom half is bluse with light blue line and light coloured text but the top half is white with noisy blue random marks.
Has anybody else had this? Is there an easy fix or have I got a duff one?
Thanks.

Barry. | Have you charged it up? Have you tried a reset? - I think there's a pinhole on the bottom, but check the manual! _________________ Jock

I've tried reseting but it's the same each time, I've managed to backup the card and update the unit but still the same. Will leave it on charge and hope for the best.

Contact the vendor and explain the unit was DOA (Dead On Arrival), arrange for it to be returned and demand a replacement, if they now have no stock demand a full refund and shop elsewhere - Mike |

Ive had this problem many a time with different TomToms and found its usually the sd card.
If you can drag the files from the sd card to the pc.Copy them over to another blank sd card.If its a 710 you wont probably have one big enough so you can chance formatting the original and copying them back to it.
If its bought from a reputable dealer and you dont want to chance it, then send it back

I think your spot on, I have already tried to copy files over as I had a 1 gig card from previous satnav before it died. After transfering the files to my card it did get further although the screen looked the same for language page but after that it was ok. However it froze at the point where you chose your voice so I'm guessing the cards TT sends out are not great if others have had a similar problem and would also point towards an imediate backup(which I did for once)as soon as the wrapper is torn open.
All being good the faulty unit is being picked up on Thursday and a new one dropped off at the same time so fingers crossed this one works and thanks for all the replies.

Barry, if its any consolation my 710 arrived today and works fine, this must be a dead on arrival and sending it back seems the best thing to do.
I didn't even have to charge mine, just inserted the SD card and powered up. |

Yes, I'm still using the i3, and still very happy with it.
Sorry you're having problems with your TomTom. I couldn't afford one - I had trouble justifying £100 for the Garmin - and don't need the bells & whistles anyway!
Hope you get sorted out one way or another. _________________ Anita

Thanks Anita. Trust me, even if you come across some spare cash you should really just stick to the i3 - small and reliable. Simple seems to be best. I will probably be moving to a nuvi soon if I cannot find anything better. |
