Hello all, another newbie!

I've ordered an I3 from Comet, will it come with a SD card included? I'm needing it to go away next weekend and want to load the speed cameras positions on.

if it doesn't come with a card, is there enough internal memory to hold the speed cameras too?

Thanks, Mike

Hello and welcome to the forum.
No i3 is delivered with an SD card, the unit is equipped with a "TransFlash" memory card slot, these cards are tiny (smaller than your finger nail), I would guess yours will come without the card so to load up additional POI etc you may want to purchase a small Transflash card, if you get one from Maplins they are supplied with an SD addaptor, allowing the tiny card to be read/ write via a normal card reader.
The amount of free storage space on the device will hold a number of POI but if you start adding more, then you will soon fill it up, have a read of THIS to get an idea - Mike

Seems it's the luck of the draw which version you get. Mine, from Comet, came with the microSD/transflash card so I bought an adapter from Maplins which works out cheaper at £4.99 rather than having to fork out £19.99 for a card.

Hi,

The newer i3's do have built in memory as well as a memory card slot whilst the older models are supplied with a removable microSD/transflash card only, which, I believe, can actually hold more information than the newer i3's with the built in memory - but really there is little to choose between them.

The main thing is that both early and later model can both hold the complete PGPSW speed camera database together with at least another 12,000 POI's, which are in addition to those already installed on your i3.

I think that the most cost effective way of using your i3 is if you are a subscribing member to this site, the dedicated subscriber forum, together with the regularly updated speed camera locations that are included as a free bonus, will both keep your i3 bang up to date at, in my opinion, an extremely reasonable price.

Regards,

Robert Swanson

Thanks for your comments folks.

I think for the trip I'm undertaking next week, I'll settle for loading the speed cams up, and will sort out another card for the remaining POI's afterwards.

Very helpful - cheers!

Mine (also bought from Comet about two weeks ago) didn't, though curiously it had a fairly old version of the firmware on it. I think it's luck of the draw as an earlier poster said.

Or should that be three out of four if I read further back in the thread.

£99 inc delivery from the Comet web site.. but none left today.
Downloading the safety camera POIs was a doddle.
You can download maps of France free when you register too.

Glad you asked that. I was going to post myself. Embarassed

I decided to register mine bought a couple of weeks ago after seeing this post yesterday. I set up an account with myGarmin and under the heading myGarmin™ Services had this option - "MapSource® Unlock - Unlock your cartography mapping product". If I clicked on the heading I got MapSource® Product -Please select a Unit to proceed - StreetPilot i3, France
City Navigator Europe NT+ v8 - Region 2 (Fra). If I click on the link I go through to another page that tells me I've unlocked the region but I don't know where to go from there. I can't click on the New Customer option as it isn't available? The page does say "Done but with errors on page." I don't know if this is the reason?

Help! Confused I have a Tinypic link to the page if it's any use.
