Hi Folks,

I've had my C510 for 3 weeks now and have grown to love lots of things about it, but one frustration is the voice instruction regarding which exit to take on a roundabout...

I'm very happy with the "Prepare to enter roundabout in 500 yards" then "Prepare to enter roundabout in 300 yards" but its only when you get to 100 yards do you get the addition of "take 1st/2nd/3rd/etc exit" -- and on large unfamiliar roundabouts, this is far too late and leads to infuriating lane hopping at the last minute!! 8O What's even more annoying is that the icon correctly shows the exit number well before the roundabout... it's just the voice that's too far behind (imho)

On another forum someone mentioned that with the voice files there are command sets that can be edited to adjust when certain instructions were given - but they didn't elaborate... Confused

Has anyone found and "tweaked" these files?? Wink

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Thanks for the info -- and it's good to see that other people are doing the roundabout updates (and it's great to see that someone from iGo is contributing to that forum too!)

Here's the link to the beginning of the thread about editing the roundabout info if anyone's interested: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=41654&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=roundabout+exit&start=19

Smile I must admit i tried my C510 for the 1st time last night since getting it on Tuesday morning. I planned a few routes to go to & from where id normally go anyway just to see where it would take me, these routes all included roundabouts, crossroads and so on. Ive gotta admit that im well impressed first off with the unit, so clear n crisp in turn by turn directions, seems to have a great signal strength gps, brilliant all round for my bluetooth Nokia 6230i mobile as well.

As for instructions just before roundabouts i think mine are giving to me well in advance, to take a turn off whether it be 1st exit, 2nd exit, etc. Dont know if thats just my perception of it but i might try n fiddle around with the csv file to change the instruction in time when i get a bit more confident on what im doing but for now im very happy! :D

Hi anarchyuk,

I agree that the the Mio is a fab little unit, it was just annoying to be approaching a large (multi lane) roundabout and only to be told at 100 yards which exit to take... and to find yourself in the left-hand lane when you need to be four lanes over in heavy traffic 8O On smaller roundabouts, 100 yards is fine

I took the plunge (with a little help from CeeJay) and decided to be brave and edit the voice/command files -- and it is fairly painless (honest!) I now have 2 female voices -- Phillipa and Fran :D

Fran is just a copy of the Phillipa file with my "tweaks" (in case I get any wrong I can switch back to Phillipa).

I tested her this morning... I now get the notification of which exit to take on both roundabout messages before the 100 yard one, so I get "prepare to enter roundabout in 300 yards take 3rd exit" AND I now have Fran say "motorway" instead of the ghastly "highway" too :D

Take the plunge! Edit away -- it's addictive Wink

CeeJay,
How about sharing that edited notification file so that the rest of us can be rid of the late roundabout notification problem?

Regards
Ravi

Can't get this to work... edited the config file, re-zipped and transferred back to the Mio. I can select Phillipa (the voice I changed), but when I select "OK" the unit resets.

What are people using to re-zip the file - I'm using WinRAR.

Hi Simebaby,

I used Winzip 8.1 to zip up the files after they had been edited...

One thing comes to mind... Have you chosen the option to "Include Paths" in the reassembled zip file?

The zip file must have the "flag_gbr.bmp" and "info.inf" at the root (not in a folder) but the .ogg audio files must be in the "audio" folder and the edited .csv files in the "config" folder...

If you haven't chosen to store the paths in the zip, these files may have floated up one level and when the software looks inside the config or audio folder it bombs because they aren't there 8O

I had to do this a couple of times before it worked - used windows own "zipper" - and the files can't be within a folder within the zipfile, either- just in the root of the zipfile.

Sorted - I'd made an error in the .csv file.

Thanks all!
