GR-213 USB receiver trouble with sirfdemo among other things

I bought the USB GR-213 a couple months ago and have had trouble with it since I bought it.

First of all, when I go into sirfdemo, does it mean anything that it says bad parity from sv 01, subframe 5 in the error box plus gives many other errors of bad parity. Is this supposed to happen in sirfdemo, or does this mean there really is an error with the receiver hardware?

I get it to get a fix and then I use it in the car with a laptop and it will work for a few minutes and then it will loose the fix and it will also say usb device not found on com port. It looses the connection and I cannot reset it and it will not find it for a long time after that. If it finds it then it will only last a few seconds after the first fix and then it will loose it again. You try and reopen gps viewer and it cannot find the com port the receiver is supposed to be on.

I know this is for pocketgps, but just seeing if someone can tell me first of all if the errors in sirfdemo are supposed to be there or not and if the trouble I am having is common.
