What's the software called ? Is it Navigon / Mobile Navigator ? We can certainly open a forum for discussion on the software.

Well, when the time I was queuing to pay, I saw at least 6 people buying it. And it was only 9:10am (shop opens 9:00am) Yes, there were people also queueing to buy the gaint tv set too.

Sorry I didn't make it very clear, pressing the power button briefly should power it off whereas holding down the power button for a longer period when the unit is on will only turn the backlight off .

At least that is how it works on all the PocketPC's I have owned Confused

Thanks Darren. It does not quite work. Not sure if it is because it is still in the cradle. However, it does switch itself off after 3 mins or so of inactivity. I think you can set it under the power management.

The software seem fine, Dave. You have an option of night view or day view. You are also zoom in and out, with or with street names. Direction of travel or north on top. So far so good. Hopefully I am not going to get lost again tonight......

The 3D feature on TomTom is one great feature that is missing from the Aldi Medion Package.. but the Aldi Package does seem to calculate routes much quicker, and having Major Routes of Europe on a single trip is a great bonus, calculates from Mansfield to Prague (A regular run for me), in just over 30 seconds,

If you missed it in Aldi, check Ebay in a few days, my local store had a scalper in there buying 6 of the units, so no doubt they will be on Ebay for a profit soon!!

Is there any reason why you couldn't load TomTom 2 onto the unit, and use that instead of the Navigon software Question

I have put TomTom2 on one of the cards and am using it to compare with the Aldi software,

As per my earlier post, the TomTom Maps take longer to calculate and are older by about 6 months, but have the bonus of the 3D mode which sort of makes up for it,

I think I will use the Aldi Software on cross Euro trips, and TT2 in the UK

I have a few other questions about the Medion unit ...

Does it take SD cards as well as MMC - or are they the same thing?

I have a mate who has a top-end Ipaq with Bluetooth, wireless LAN etc. As the Aldi unit doesn't have these, I am concerned that I might buy something I might come to regret.

What's the benefit of having bluetooth?

Again - any help would be much appreciated - preferably before 9am tomorrow if I am going to get one of these from Aldi !

SD are just the secure version of the card, most devices that will take SD will take MMC.

Bluetooth gives you complete wireless connectivity and is great for GPS without the requirement for wires. Put the BT GPS in your shirt pocket and go out for a walk with the Pocket PC.
