| Yeah but it is absolutely rubbish. Even the normal speech in Co-Pilot is really poor. In fact, Co-Pilot is the most bugged software I've ever had the misfortune to use. |

Well, I've used MN6 now on a Loox..
Colour me disappointed. 
The map rendering is exactly same the the previous versions. It runs pretty slowly (although I have a 600-odd mhz iPAQ 4700, so when/if the PDA version becomes available it should run pretty quickly) - I guess I've just been spoiled with my brother-in-law Mio C510 (which I've stolen off him for the time being :P )
It's frustrating because this always happens.. There are 3 or 4 really good GPS nav programs out there at the moment, each of them some really nice - but exclusive - features..
MN6's road number thing is very very nice, as is it's little display that tells you what lane you need to be in for certain turnoffs.
Mio's software just looks beautiful and the map runs so smoothly, but the voice directions are a bit pants, and the interface is pretty clunky.
Tomtom's still a great all rounder, but hasn't really outwardly changed much.. It's been getting left behind.
I want a FAST MN6 with Mio's map rendering, please. If anyone's listening :D |

What are these idiots playing at? This software has been ridiculously delayed. When it was supposed to come out in April it was going to be released with Q4 2005 maps. If this is still the case then I won't bother upgrading to it because there would be no point seeing as the maps would be nearly 12 months old. I am really disappointed with Navigon. They haven;t even bothered to e-mail registered users' why it is delayed or what is going on. Surely it can't be that much different from the LOOX version???
Darthpaul - Do you know what Version of Navteq maps comes with the LOOX? Many thanks.
I also agree with you on the other Sat Nav software. If I'm right, Mio is the same as IGO 2006. The tracking is indeed very good and I love the user interface. The only thing that lets me down is the Teleatlas maps which have poor coverage of Ireland. |

I can't say for definate what version the maps are fella, sorry.
What I do know is that the A1 - M62 link at Pontefract isn't in them, and that road has been open for over a year now. |

The Transonic 7000 unit is being badged as and marketed by Talex in the UK and after several weeks of "Coming Soon!" their website (www.talexgps.co.uk) announced today that it has "Finally Arrived!!". They are offering it for £370, which is twenty quid cheaper than Amazon.
Trawling around the net a bit it would seem that MN6 - irrespective of whichever hardware platform - largely gets a big thumbs-up but weak points are extreme slowness at calculating routes (despite the 7000 hardware apparently possessing two CPU's - one for calculations and one for display) and some features such as speed limit posting not working at all.
Anyway I guess it's wrong of me to judge it without actually having tried one... and I am very tempted!

Well I guess if MN6 is slow to calculate routes on a dedicated PNA, as reported, then the problem will be even worse on a PDA. Perhaps, then, the release delay is due to Navigon trying to find ways of speeding up the calculation engine...?

Check out the Navigon web site. It is taking orders for MN6 for PDA at 179 Euros or £125.
Hopefully us MN5 users will get some sort of discount.

I've just realised there's something a bit odd with the 7000T unit. There is some documentation available for it here:

Page 6 illustrates an "External Antenna Connector" but it doesn't say whether this means GPS or TMC. Mention is made of a "magnetic mount" so I guess it's for an external GPS receiver. If that's the case, however, there doesn't seem to be any provision for plugging in an antenna for TMC - either the usual naff bit of wire or a proper aerial - in which case this facility stands no chance at all of working in the UK!
OTOH if the connector is to take a TMC aerial, it doesn't look as though you can connect an external GPS receiver, which I would imagine would be a bit of a drawback if you're trying to find your way through the middle of a city lined with tall buildings.
Thoughts, anyone?
