Still a GPS virgin!

Dell Axim X5 (300mhz)
Full Gb map on a 128mb CF card

The car kit is the one supplied with TomTom2 (vers 2.24 (361)
The cradle is showing a power light
The gps receiver is flashing
When i turn ign on/off the Axim reacts sow i assume is fixed in cradle.

Sat in car for 90 mins today and nothing happened.
all i get is a GPS unreliable message.
Switch to the GPS prog on the Axim and the display is rather inactive
I am showing 4 bars however on the TomTom screen
I have followec the instructions for the Nth time with same results.
Oh and the Axin tells me that TomTom GPS Navigator Voice and Navigator are installed

Is there something reaaly simple i am not doing?

Thanks

We haven't tested the TomTom car kit as we're still waiting for the 2210 version to be released and sent to us.

If on the GPS Status screen in TTN2 you are seeing 4 bars, are they gray or red ? If red, then you have a 3D fix which means you can start driving. If you are off road, or it thinks you are off road, then you will still see the message GPS Unreliable. If you start driving then this message should go away and if you have already plot a route, it should then start calculating it.

However, if you are only getting gray bars, then it hasn't got a full fix, and this is the reason. If you're using the cabled mouse that TomTom supply, then you shouldn't have many problems, but you may be in an area where you are not getting a complete line of sight to the sky and are receiving rebounded (multi-path) signals.

You could walk through the WinFast Navigator instructions which would prove whether the receiver is working, but it sounds like it is if you are getting sat bars.

If you remove the Axim from the cradle, do the gray bars disappear ?
