ICN 510 in Europe

Just returned from a road trip to Northern Spain via Ijmuiden in Holland.

Overall the 510 provided a service however the most annoying part is the length of time it took to identify a sat link. Sometimes this could take up to 10 minutes and a couple of times it took even longer . This was very frustrating and most inconvenient. What causes such delays? Also, on a number of occassions I received an Assert Failure message. I thought (hoped!) this may be down to the card I was using and so changed it for another card with the same maps. This seemed to help the problem but it did not clear it completely. Again, what causes an Assert Failure message?

The 510 with Euro maps did manage to find hotels and fuel stations with accuracy.

Of the problems mentioned above, are they the same sort of things experienced with other satnav equipment? Are other units quicker to make the sat connetion?
