This is driving me mad! Evil or Very Mad I have to soft reset my IPAQ up to three or four times because the activate map screen keeps appearing (asking me to activate the map manually or automatically). Difficult when you're hundreds of miles from home. Any ideas why this happen?
Have checked and both my cards (CF and SD are recognised).
Is it worth updating as I believe TomTom 5.2 is now available.

Any help welcomed.
Thanks,

Bill

Version Info is:
(App version 5.100(5160)
Free RAM 13.6Mb
GPS driver v1.20
Map: Great_Britain_Plus-Map v571
then quotes a code (should I key this in?)

Bill, download the latest version from the tomtom site it is 5,21 for your device and see how that gets on, you might want to consider a hard reset of the device and a re-install or all data/ applications just to make sure nothing is messing up the TomTom application - it should keep asking for the activation code, once entered correctly the software will work fine - Mike

Mike,

I'll give it a try - thanks for advice. Incidentally have you tried a ROm update seems a bit risky, but considering upgrading to 1.1.
Cheers, Bill

Bill, My 4700 is running ROM 1.10.08 ENG Dated 04/13/05 and as its stable I have no intention of changing it, as for a WM2005 upgrade I wouldn't touch it for the 4700 to be honest.

It is quite a while since I have updated the ROM on the unit, but its not too difficult - just bear in mind you will loose all settings and data, also back-ups of installed software are not recomended, a clean re-install from the PC is the better option if the ROM is changed - Mike

I have gone WM5 on the hx4700 and it is a slower than before..

My advice - unless you require the functionality of WM5 e.g. BT GPS working correctly (I no longer use GPSgate) or constant memory, don't bother. Media Player is the same (still does not play avi), I.E. is just as bad and with no option for multiple IE screens, useless if you want to perform Wireless Hotspotting where the ask you to leave another window open to close the connection. Some software will not work and you will need to upgrade it e.g. Sprite Backup.

So all in all... It'll keep you up with the Jones's, but ask yourself a question, if it is that good, why have HP given me an option to roll back to WM2003SE?

Pocket IE in its standard form is almost unusable, particularly on a big site like PGPSW. The PIE Plus addon allows tabs and other fuctionality that Microsoft overlooked.
