Hello,

I submitted a new fixed camera (PEEK) on 1st May 2006, for which i immediately gained a receipt.

I have not received any communication regarding the submission, and following downloading the latest DB (060606) i see that it has not been entered either.

Can someone please contact me to discuss this.

Cheers,

Lee

It'll be waiting to be verified.

It may take some time. Mean while amuse yourself by reading some of the other threads on this very subject.

I would like to bump this post up the list.

Another month has passed and i have still not been contacted by pocketgpsworld.

Is the carrot of free database upgrades in return for submitting new camera locations real, or is the data supplied simply being used as product content for the company's commercial gain only?

Not a lot more that we can really say. This does seem to be a long delay, but others have complained of similar times. If the camera is in an outlying area, it may be that nobody else has reported it. You will only be contacted if you have been first to report the camera.

Sorry, you should have received an automated email with FAQs. Sounds like it may have been filtered.

I have included a copy of our FAQs (similar to the email) to help you better understand our system. We are coping well in processing the many thousands of submissions we get every month. The huge discrepancies between submissions of the same camera is a sight to behold!

Quote:
Q. How can I get Free Lifetime Membership?

A. Your active paid subscription will be extended free for life if you report just one previously unreported, deleted or altered static speed camera position. (Must consequently be verified by PocketGPSWorld.com.) We monitor all submissions very carefully and you will be notified if we use your submission. If you are successful we will let you know (there is no need to send us an email to check) and automatically extend your current membership. You must be a current paid member and your account must be active to benefit from this offer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I've submitted a brand new camera, but I haven't received my free membership. Why?

A. We get 100s of submissions every month and it is not unusual for new cameras to be submitted by several different people.

The verification process can take about a month, but is often sooner.

You will receive a separate Free Lifetime Membership email if you have submitted a camera that is consequently verified by us and you were the first to submit it. If you don't receive a email, please check http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Your_Account every now and then to see if we have extended your subscription. If we haven't, then your submission wasn't successful.

Where the submission was both verified and first, we will of course always extend all memberships automatically whether or not there is email communication, for instance if your ISP blocked our email as commercial.

For general information it is worth noting that we get dozens of incorrect entries (middle of fields, North Sea etc.). These are not malicious, just genuine mistakes with submitters entering the wrong data. So whilst someone is absolutely certain that they've submitted a camera position, it isn't necessarily so that we have included their data.

We also sometimes, though rarely, have to wait longer than we would hope for some cameras to be verified. Overall, we're pleased to report that month on month the quality and volume is increasing, but, by the very nature of the beast, inevitably the odd camera might take a bit of time putting in an appearance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Why might my submission be rejected?

A. There may be a number of reasons:

* Duplicate of earlier submission
* Incorrect co-ordinates
* Unknown camera type
* Verified as not at location specified

Also, we are currently reviewing the verification process and compiling a list of trusted verifiers. As soon as the technology we have in mind to support this is in place, we'll launch.

The currency and quality of the database still remains the best available thanks to to efforts of contributors such as yourself.

We have granted several thousand free lifetime memberships so far. We take the quality of the database VERY seriously.

I can't confirm the quantity, but I can confirm that they have issued at least one - to me - thanks.

As for the quality of the database, I can only comment on how it is in the areas I drive. I can honestly say, that the quality of the data is improving; but could that have anything to do with the fact that even though I was granted my free membership some time ago, I continue to contribute?

As a Moderator has locked both the original topic AND the newer reference to it, I'll have to make my post referring to it here.... :x

How does posting a link to this topic explain the original poster's question?

What he asked was why or how is data that he submitted, and was included in previous databases (so presumably "verified" in some way) now missing or removed, when it is (by his assertion) still correct?

Nothing in this topic is relevant to that unanswered question AFAICS. Sad

The continued references to the perceived diminution in quality were beginning to appear in new posts and topics and managing them/answering them is becoming a problem inasmuch as we have to keep repeating ourselves.

We'd sometimes rather spend the time on the database itself Wink

I'm not saying don't post the errors you notice (some reported problems are spot on and others are not) I'm just trying to keep them down to a few places Smile

If you had to keep up with dozens of threads on an 80 hour week you'd understand. It's enjoyable, but far from easy Smile

I would like to say it is not a fake promise, I submitted information, and about 2 months later, was rewarded with my free membership.

Instead of waiting for cameras to be verified, would it not be possible to put another class of camera onto the database (i.e. in addition to specs, mobile, temp etc) that is is "Reported Camera - not verified". At least then users would have a fighting chance of taking some action and not sailing past a camera that they could have been aware of?

Users could chose whether or not to install this category on their GPS.

It would also be possible for members who live in the area to know which cameras need confirmation, and do something about it.
