Importing data to a built-in car system

Is it possible to import camera and POI files on the built-in car systems like Toyota or Renault?

Nope.

AFAIK no car maker's sat nav systems support custom POIs or have any way of inputting them even if they did.

Hi Guys.
I have a similar question with a Toyota RAV4 XT5. (2006).

If I were to copy my satnav disc to my computer and download the camera stuff, then burn a new disc with all of that on do you think that might work?

I appreciate your help and suggestions.

You would need to know what format the sat nav recognises the POIs in and make sure you follow that format exactly, and if it ain't industry standard you will only have 9000 or so camera positions to alter!

then you will have to know what file to be able to put it in there - so it won't be just a case of copy and then add.

Forget it, the map data format is proprietary and undocumented. The POIs are part of the map data. It ain't gonna work.

We have met with a few manufacturers who are planning to release units with SD slots to allow use of 3rd Party POI data but none have yet been confirmed or released.

I am looking for a new car with this capability - I asked both Audi and Toyota if their systems had it and neither were able to connect me with anyone who knew. I would be very interested if you hear of any car manufacturer adding this feature, and hope to see it featured in a newsletter soon. In-car navigation systems cost 6 times as much as a TomTom but are greatly inferior............. If enough people ask they will add it - I got the impression when I asked the question that they had never heard it before!

Don't hold your breath for it. Large car manufacturers are not known for actually listening to their clients.

We had a meeting with Kenwood a while back and the ability to import POIs was a feature they were already designing into their next range via the addition of an SD card slot so it'll come in time.

Darren - is that for aftermarket models only or do Kenwood make some of the car manufacturer's OEM products?
