Hi

I have a Garmin Etrex Vista which I am not able to connect to my PC using Fugawi (v.3.0.4.202). I am running Windows XP and have all the latest updates. There are two issues:

1. Whatever Comms port I set Fugawi to it will not recognise the GPS. I know the GPS to PC link is working OK as I can connect the GPS via the PC to GARTRIP and GPS TRACKMAKER using Com Port 2 without any problems. I have tried setting serial data format in the Garmin to NMEA and GARMIN but again with no success. (I have also tried using other ports as well)

2. I have just purchased an HP Ipaq 5450 Pocket PC. I am unable to load the Fugawi Pocket PC files. I click on Tools/Install Pocket PC files and the box "Connecting to Pocket PC" appears. Nothing happens and after a short while the box disappears. The Pocket PC has a good connection to the Desktop.

Regards

Brian

Brian,

You are using the same software that I use to successfully connect the Garmin to the PC. I am using a laptop with XP. Mine connects to Com1 at 9600, none,8,1,none. I use the Garmin protocol to transfer routes, tracks and waypoints, and NMEA at 4800 to log my position. The only difference is that I had the base eTrex not the Vista. If it is connecting to GARTRIP and GPS TRACKMAKER then you should be able to connect and download/upload data.

As far as your second problem is concerned I have successfully installed Fugawi and transferred maps and data using both USB synch and WiFi link. So it is not an incompatible hardware issue.

I wonder if the Fugawi application has installed correctly? Ouch, that sounds like a typical support engineer response but it does seem strange that all aspects of communication have failed.

brimar - What version of ActiveSync are you using - I have read that some software does not support 3.7 i.e. Alturion

I've just had exactly the same problem!

Have solved it by going thru settings - memory - running programs and then making sure active sync was stopped.
Then founf it still didn't work, however I had the external keyboard s/w loaded.
Unchecking the "enable keyboard" under the ipaq s/w pref, and it sprung into life! Took me 2 days to find though Exclamation

oh rats, just replied to the wrong problem!

Connecting the gps to my pc involved me having to have a fix first (contrary to what it says in help/handbook), ie i says you should have gps:no fix, rather gps: none, but as soon as i got a fix (hanging the gps out the window!) it worked.
