I was looking through the local "safety camera partnership" website this evening:-

http://www.mscp.org.uk/index2_WestMidlandsCameras.html

Am I missing something here or is the information on there showing that at certain camera sites, the 3 year pre-camera KSI is either 1 or 2 and in many instances the post camera average has risen.

For example:-

A45 Coventry Road (Eastbound), Bickenhill
A45 Coventry Road (Eastbound), Bickenhill
A45 Coventry Road (Westbound), Sheldon
A4540 Lee Bank Middleway (Eastbound), Edgbaston
A4540 Ladywood Middleway (Southbound), Ladywood
A34 High Street (Southbound), Aston
A34 Walsall Road (Southbound), Perry Barr

....and these were just the ones I found on just two of the map tiles screens!

So, can we expect to see the cameras being removed to improve the safety on the roads back to the pre-camera levels???

Yeah right!

Andy.

Maybe drivers are too busy rubber necking at the new cameras and fail to see the other, now stationary, cars doing the same thing.

What we need is rubber necking cameras to catch people!

Well you’re almost right. People hit their brakes in panic and “hey-presto” instant accident.

What I don’t understand is why they call them “safety cameras?” It must be Freudian.

Or just being politically correct!

PS Is highway robberry still a capital offence? Yes I know that some are placed with safety in mind, but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone to justify some of them.

Perhaps it should be made compulsory for all camera locations (fixed and mobile) to be placed on a central website (not just local ones) complete with detailed reasoning for their position. Also, for cases where their locations were not either recorded, or the justification was deemed insufficient, any tickets issued on the grounds of speed alone would be invalid. (As in if the speed recorded indicated dangerous driving - that would be another matter)

I think that would then focus the 'Partnerships' minds on how to improve safety, which would of course be to the benefit of us all. Or perhaps we could have a system of fining the partnerships when a camera issued too many tickets, as they have obviously failed to implement an effective solution to the problem which 'must' exist.
