When are TT going to update the maps?

It's an oft asked question and one we'd all like to know the answer to! It is however worth bearing in mind that a huge proportion of the development and manufacture costs for these applications goes in buying the map data and licence.

There are a huge number of variables involved when choosing map data that affect it's cost e.g. the amount of detail displayed at maximum and minimum zoom levels affects it's purchyase price. Once the map data has been obtained it then has to go through a complex refinment and compression process to squeeze it into the map file sizes we need as PDA users, this is not an issue for factory fit DvD systems.

Taking this into account you can see why map updates are rare if non-existent unless rolled out as part of a new version release, customers would never see the value of the maps were updates charged at 60-70% of the full package cost. A new map CD for a factory fitted system can cost over £250!
