Just had the battery go flat on my Mio168 Embarassed but successfully restored from back-up. :D

However, I notice the TomTom icon is no longer showing on the Today screen. Sad

I've searched for an answer but all I can find, in another Post is,
Quote:
It would of course be of quite some interest to several of us if anyone cares to educate us on how to change the references to the shortcuts on the Today's screen.

I suppose I could re-install with the 5.21 download to restore it but is there another way?

Thanks for that Mullet, I just checked and it's not showing.

Thinking about it, it's not really a problem having to use an extra 'tap' i.e Start - TomTom, but it's still a puzzle why everything else went back to where it should be.

Could mean a re-install if you find you cannot live without it. Dont use it myself, I have mapped a hardware key to start my TT.
The only thing I have seen regarding this is on Darrens site, but this is for TTN3. May be worth a shot?

hiya,
look for a file called wzd.cab on ur cd. This is the today-plug-in. Copy it to ur PPC and run it. Then go to start/settings/today/items and there u can tick TT and it should be shown on ur screen - hopefully Wink

Thanks Mullet and hope68.

I found the wzd.cab on my cd. I put a 'New Folder' on my SD Card and copied the wzd.cab file to it. Ran the .cab file and it said it was 'already installed'. I ignored this and said 'Yes to replace all' and TomTom is now back on the Today Screen. :D

Really appreciate your help, thanks again. LP.

I checked your link Mullet and noticed the latest TT Navigator GPS Driver is v2.07, mine is v1.20.

Are these for TomTom Go's only or are they suitable for my Mio168?

Had a play with these some time ago and as far as I can see they are the old driver modules for TTNv3, and so dont seem to have a part to play in TTNv5. I once ran the driver alone and is shows the TT GPS config but in more detail with a few more options if my memory serves me.
Perhaps someone may want to clarify.

I won't attempt to use them then.

I spotted the London Congestion Charge data and .bmp download and now have them in my GB_Map folder. I've set the warning to 880 yards just in case I stray. :P I did a route demo and it did the job. :D

The GPS driver for TTN3 at release 2,06 or 2,07 is a very handy application for switching a SiRF-III equipped device between SiRF and NMEA data mode, it is a stand alone application in its own right, but you do not need it when runing TTN vs5x - unless you want to mess around with the GPS device, leave it alone if you are not too sure - Mike

I'm sure my Mio168 is SiRF-II so that wouldn't appear to help then.

I've read so much about SiRF-II, III and NMEA and I know my Mio168 should be set to Other NMEA - Baud Rate 4800 - SP2. I still find TTFF is quicker if I use TomTom Cable GPS, although having said that, I've sometimes found it's reverted to Other NMEA after a soft re-set.

I wouldn't mind having a mess about if I thought I could improve performance. When I first go into TT I get the grey bars within a few seconds but to get lock can vary. e.g. I've has a case of arriving at my destination, exiting TT and switching off, then within half an hour I switch back on, grey bars appear but I stand outside my car for ages waiting for the lock. (I stand outside because of those 'darn' windscreens'). Then another time, like recently when spending a week at Dartmoor, we arrived Friday and never used TT again until late Sunday afternoon, switched on, grey bars within seconds and a lock within a minute or so.

Drives me mad sometimes. I was hoping that maybe by experimenting here and there I may get some improvement.

I don't mind experimenting as long as I can be sure if it goes wrong all I have to do is a hard re-set and re-install.

There are other programs besides the old TT3 2.06 & 2.07 such as SirfDemo, but unless you are absolutely sure that you know what you are doing and what the consequences of any changes you make, you can very easily make your GPS device a return to base for repair.
The units are already set to their optimum.

I'm aware that messing about with Firmware can result in catastrophe but didn't realise trying a different drive could produce the same result.

I think maybe I'll leave it as it is. Unless anyone has tried it without problems and gained some advatage from doing so.

I was hopeful but now it's 50 - 50. Sad
