|
|
I don't know much about the activation code issues.
I tried to install Tomtom navigator 2 s/w on my HP 2210. this is a second device, earlier software was installed on my brother's Ipaq two months ago. (I think this is valid).
However I couldn't see the program beeing installed.
installed programs list says, tomtom navigator voice, tomtom GB maps and gps are installed. but there is no icon for tomtom navigator in programs menu. I can only see GPS icon which is working fine.
I did not connected to internet during installation process.nether did installer asked me to do so.(or did I missed it and pressed o.k?) It seems software works on valid activation code.
but even if i get activation code, as there is no tomtom navigator installed, where do i input the activation code? and there is no device code generated for me.
I try to uninstalland install everything again with out sucess.
so I can never Install it on the same Ipaq with out hard reset?

Looks like you haven't installed the Navigator software itself yet. (You have installed the voice package, the GPS package, and the map).
Please re-run the setup, selecting to install Navigator. _________________ Lutz

I am eagarly waiting for some one to replay. The instller screen says TomTom Navigator Great britian Set up and I selected the Radi button Install TomTom navigator. It seems it is installed properly. How ever no TomTom Icon is coming up , neither any mention of activation code.
it is saying the following programs will be installed on your device.
TomTom Navigator in English
English voice prompts
TomTom GPS 2.06
I believe the top one is the one is what I needed.
I am desparate to get it working.

Satya,
yes, the top entry is what you need. If you do not want to reinstall the rest, and if you do not mind that the navigator gets installed into main memory then you can also copy the navigator cab file directly to the Pocket PC and execute it from there.
You may want to go to the TomTom support site and get the most recent versions of Navigator (2.24) and GPS (2.08)

Hi Lutz,
Thanks for the replay. I really appriciate your help.
I don't mind installing it agin and again. I have selected all of them and installed many times. what I am not getting is why I am not been asked about activation code stuff during installation. So I presume it was not properly installed.
I will try installing from the cab file.
as cab file is like a zip file, if I copy cab file in to main memory, how can I extract it?. there is no extractor installed on pocket PC. or can I extract it on PC and synchronize it in to pocket PC?.
which location it shall be copied in Ipaq?
Thanks

Given these issues I'd completely uninstall any TomTom related entries and go for a fresh install. You should be prompted to connect to the Internet during install although you can choose not to and enter the unlock key manually available from www.ttcode.com.
If you can, a hard reset may be a good start before a re-install here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I am really considering hard reset.
however looking at the activation matters, they say the entries are also made in the host PC regisry at so many places and also on the flash card. So does hard reset any different from uninstalling and installing again?
doe it really helpful ? |

There is no problem hard resetting, the key you need to input at www.ttcode.copm is displayed on the PPC once you have installed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Satya,
I don't own a CD for TomTom UK, so I can't tell you the exact cab file name. Depends also on the processor type of your Pocket PC. Mostly ARM nowadays. Darren, can you help?
The cab file can be started by tapping on it in the Pocket PC file explorer. Inside the cab fiee is the installation inf file that tells the Pocket PC what to install where and which registry entries to make.
The advantage of cab files is that they are much smaller than the original setup packages (because they are processor specific), and in some cases you can download the cab file directly from the internet to your Pocket PC to install or reinstall applications even when you are on the road. You don't need ActiveSync for that at all.
The only known drawback of this method is that it always installs to main memory. If you want it to be in a different place then you will have to move the installed files manually after setup is done, and adjust the registry accordingly. _________________ Lutz

Hi Lutz,
I will soon find out the CAB file. Thanks for giving me proper direction.
I don't know that the PPC cab files are executables. my PPC is hp 2210. and its spec says the processor is Intel XScale PXA255 400 MHz processor. I don't know whether it is ARM processor or not. I don't mind installing navigation s/w in to the main memory when I find the right navigator CAB file. I will opt for it. by the way how to edit the registry?. do I need to download any tool for it?
You people at Pocket GPS are very helpful. I am learnig a lot reading these forums. keep the good work
Regards

Satya,
thanks for the nice words...
yes, the 2210 is using the ARM compilation. While not technically an ARM processor (it's an XScale) it does however emulate ARMs so all programs compiled for ARM will run on it. (well, most ;-))
For the registry editor have a look at http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Good luck,

Thank you all ,
I have managed to install it and went for a trip to London using it.
Yes there was some problem in installation. I have downloaded latest version of navigator. i.e 2.27 and installed it. every thing worked like dream. I am so delighted now.
Thanks & regards
Satya
ps:does the PHM RegEditor work for PPC 2003? |

Hey, you're the first one to spot 2.27 ! Or maybe just a typo?
yes, Regedit works with WM2003.
Have fun with TomTom, _________________ Lutz
