I was appalled to find that having purchased a new XJ to find how poor the mapping is compared to my PDA with Tom Tom on it, even my first PDA with Medion is I think better in navigation.

Yesterday I drove to Hyde Lane in Churt with the Jaguar Satnav muted while Tom Tom took me directly there.

There appears to be no way to add POI's such as Speed Camera base but hope I'm wrong on that.

Indeed if anyone knows if it can be added I would be pleased to know how.

My knowledge of "fitted" SatNav systems is poor. I believe that OEM or third party fitted SatNav systems that use either CD or DVD for their maps are not capable of accepting large custom POIs (Points of Interest) such as our camera database, which has in excess of 8,000 locations.

A lot of PDAs that run SatNav applications and PNDs (Personal Navigation Devices) are able to use our camera database as they use storage cards (e.g. SD, CF, etc) that can have the data rewritten.

Can you please check with whoever supplied/fitted your SatNav unit in your XJ (or your dealer) and ask them whether it will take large custom POIs? If it can then the likely format may be a form of CSV (Comma Separated Value) format. However it might be a unique format. You would probably have to burn a new CD/DVD with the map data and the new custom POIs, which would probably not be allowed by the manufacturer of the unit or the supplier of the map data (either Tele Atlas or Navteq).

So, to sum up, it’s unlikely that you will be able to use the PocketGPSWorld camera database with your XJ's SatNav unit. However please check that your unit can take POIs and if it can then we’ll ask some of the techie people to have a look at developing a file for use with your unit.

You will not be able to load your own POI's. How old is the map DVD that came with the car? Dealers have been known to not give you the latest mapping. The Jaguar / Denso system usually gets a very good write up so I am supprised you think your Tom Tom is better.

Thank you both for your help, it does seem that I am going to be stuck with this, Navteq seem unable to give a straight yes or no but offer helpful advise like contact your dealer, the dealer says contact Jaguar as they should know but of course Jaguar can help.

The version I have is 2004 V1 which the dealer assures me is the latest, 2004? the latest.

I am now at the point where I am using Jag Satnav and using Tom Tom with just Camera warning switched on.

The outcome of lots of phone calls is that no you can do nothing further with the system installed on the Jaguar.

Also the DVD that came with the car was not the up to date one as should have been sold with the car (new o6) and was replaced today by the dealer who recieved the new one from Jaguar.

Tom Tom will find Churt - Hyde lane and give me the post code while my car Satnav knows Churt but your on your own from there on.

As a matter of interest to buy an up to date? new DVD from the Jaguar dealer comes to £305-00 and your chancing your arm as to what updates it has

Tom Tom 5.1 on a PDA.

Incidently going to the New Forest a month or so ago there was a hold up and I diverted off on to the road into Lyndhurst with lots of others, saw the hold up miles from the town and did a quick right to some where beginning with the letter M------- Navteq straight away had me in a green field with no where to go, Tom Tom got me throught to the other side of Lyndhurst on the Western side and I carrried on towards Bournemouth.

The new DVD 2005- 2006 version has cured one fault, as I come into my village from the country lanes it now tells me to turn left then right which is correct where as before it would have you go straight on which must mean a mile or two more on the journey though it still insists that I should take the third exit from the roundabout when in fact it is the fourth.
This is in Yateley on the Reading road heading West and ignores Vicarage lane which used to be the main road and is now cut off rom the main road at the far end.

I hear that Jaguar are going to include Tcm? by the end of this year but no news if this can be fitted retrograde.

Do you know of any thing reasonable that will give this information.

I believe Tom Tom have a service but as I'have spent two thousand pounds on th Jag satnav I feel I should make as much use of it as possible but use Tom Tom to provide camera warnings only and go back to it when all else fails

I have just purchased a Peugeot 407 SW with a Navteq sat. nav. fitted.
Having gone on a journey yesterday I noticed that it was showing round a bouts on the new Newbury bypass. When returning to the old A34 all was well. The CD case says I have the Navteq maps of Great Britain and Ireland and dated 2004/2005. IS THIS THE LATEST ISSUE OF THIS MAP

According to my DVD the latest is 2005 - 2006 but this applies to the one in my Jaguar.

I contacted Navteq but they wont say about what the last update they have made as far as Jag's go only telling you to contact your dealer.

Navteq told me that they update twice a year following information given to tell by customers and that they actually drive the route to test tit, so they said.

But they seem unwilling to sell updates directly to me, I presume that means that Jaguar has some restraint on the upgrades (3305-00) if you want one from them.

Havent tried it around Newbury as yet but do go as far as Hungerford on occassions so if I notice any difference will post a note.
