Having used the 910, there appears to be no reason why TomTom could not include the Text to Speech on all other units. On the 910 theres a directory that appears to contain the required files this is over 4Gb in size. However this includes all laugages, the English GB version is only 605Mb, so why not only installed the lauguge required.
I suspected that once the excitement of the current x10 range has died off, and the beta testing is complete, TomTom will release the "TomTom TWO" Similar to the current ONE, with updated maps, & Text to speech.
This will be to compete with the Garmin Nuvi form factor, which I beleive will be a serious challenge to TomTom, especially when PCWorld & Dixons start discounting the Nuvi range. |

having used text to speech im not really a fan and it would mean youd need at least a 1gb card to have the uk map and the text to speech on the sd card some machines do have problems with large sd cards so personally i cant see it happening for ppc (whatch me be wrong totally wrong here) im sure the team have there own veiws personall i prefer the recored human voices _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. I was thinking more that it should have been included as an option on all the x10 range. Yes 1GB+ SD cards & PDA version would be problematic, but wit wouldn't have cost much to include 1GB internal memory to support UK data & Text to speech.
The interesting thing is this, the GO 700 could support text to speech if only the UK maps were installed . . . |

the problem is this the logistics of doing this in ech eu country would make it problematic and not only to support but also the price would change so it could cost sales as for the 700 being capable of it for only uk again tt would have to make an update country specific again it could a support minefeild _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Alix, as a moderator, could you possibly encourage good practice and use some punctuation, please? I find it incredibly hard to wade through these wodges of text with no capital letters, full stops, commas, or any other way to know when to mentally "breathe". Sorry.
Back to the topic:- surely it is no harder to get the correct country's voice files onto a machine than it is to get the correct country's map? |

While this is true yes tomtom would then have make the lower numbered Go range is country batches so if you bought a Go 710 or Go 500 in say Spain for example and then brought it back to the UK then you would have a problem as the text to speach would only be in Spanish. This would be a major problem for the 700 also as it marketed as a pan european device.
I hope this makes some kind of sense just got up oh the joy of working nights _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

Yes, it would make the 510 especially, a pain to produce.
Maybe one day the TTS files will be included when you buy a country map. |
