I believe that the application is free from Tomtom, check here:

The maps, you have to pay for.

The update is free, not the application. From the update page:-

"This update can ONLY be used when you have already installed a registered version of TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 on your Pocket PC/Palm OS device."

So doesnt solve the OP dilema.

Tis is simply marketing lingo. In reality NO SINGLE producer of Pocket PC software has yet wasted time on an upgrade installer routine. It is way too complex to implement.

Whenever you see a CAB file you can be pretty certain it is a full version. TomTom 6 is no exception.

With TomTom you pay for the maps. The app is free. Period.

Undoubtedly it is a full application, but are you saying it does not need an activation code if you have never had a previous version installed?

You only require an activation code for the maps, not the application itself.

Well firstly I must say what a fantastic site.
I have used it many times to update my limited knowledge of satnav applications.

Pirated software !!! Tut Tut, come on guys (and girls) lets not get too serious, rules are made to be broken aren't they?

Anyway just wanted to say everybody to their own and we all have our own opinions and morals and lets keep it that way - I think the word is diversity.

Great site.
Regards.

I myself went down this route. I already owned mobile, so downloaded the 5.21 (so called update), & added all my mobile files (voices, maps, postcodes etc) & activated my mobile map on the device.

One thing I'm curious about, how does traffic activation work? Does tomtom check that you own a copy of tomtom, or a map or does it not check at all? I know you're supposed to give your device code on registering, is this to do a check or just to make sure you don't use your traffic subscription on another device? How is the device code derived?

To use traffic, I thought you had to have sat lock, therefore you would have a registered map and tt

As far as I am aware traffic sends your details when it requests traffic information to the server which verifies that you have a traffic account.
