perhaps a stupid question, but after having a couple of hard resets (for various reasons), I'm a bit fed up of losing all my favourite locations.
Can they be stored on the SD card along with my map - 'cos I just can't seem to find an option to choose how TomTom stores them.
I don't know what's up with my system, but after a hard reset I cannot for the life of me figure out how to restore a backup taken via active sync (backup appears to have been taken from a different device), and even the new Proporta Probackup card I bought sepcifically to overcome this just hangs the iPAQ after a restore...
Oh well, I've just upgraded iPAQ Backup to Sprite Backup Premium - hopefully this will offer some form of system recovery. Any pointers on getting the Active Sync backup working would be appreciated too!.
Cheers

Sure, instead of saving these locations as 'Favourites', create a new POI file e.g. 'Family' and add your loactions to this file. You no longer are limited by the 20 entries for favourites and they are saved in an .ov2 file in your map folder which can be backed up or shared as you wish _________________ Darren Griffin |

I completed my first ever hard reset yesterday, and ran into exactly the same problem with ActiveSync not recognising my device. Turns out that the problem was to do with the region setting on my iPAQ.
You need to go into Start> Settings> System> Regional Settings and put the iPAQ back into English (UK) mode or whatever - the same setting as for when you backed-up. I re-tried, then it worked fine.
Chances are, you didn't change the region setting before trying to restore. But, you would have set the region, before you did your first back-up, if you follow me. |

You favourites and other settings are stored in your "map_name.cfg" and "Navigator GlobalSettings.cfg" files which are usually in the "My Documents\ TomTom Navigator Settings" folder.
I keep an extra copy of these for when I do re-installs. |
