I thought this post might help others who are thinking of buying one of these:
1. The speed of map drawing while moving is initially very slow - this is because all the speed cameras for the whole world appear to be selected. You can speed it up by only having the UK ones show. Just go to the POI menu and choose which ones show from there.
2. The speed of the map is still not particularly smooth, I was expecting something a lot smoother than the tt go 300, and it's much the same, or worse.
3. Because you've got the whole of Europe in there, selecting town names is longer than previously (with a tt go 300) and there are lots of foreign town names to wade through. It would be nice to be able to just have a UK map in there, and switch to Europe only when necessary.
4. The text-to-speech is excellent. New types of message exist like: "follow Noak Hill Road A176 for 2.2 miles" or "turn left on the roundabout, third exit, xxx Avenue, then take the third right, xxx road". You can even program in your own messages for POI warnings like "Speed camera, limit 30".
5. The speaking of road names is sometimes wrong, but always understandable. Road numbers don't adhere to what I'd call the normal way of doing things. So whilst things like "M25" or pronounced "Em Twenty Five", roads like "A127" are pronounced "ay one hundred and twenty seven" which just sounds wrong. Roads like B1007 are "Bee-One thousand Seven" which sounds a bit american.
6. There's a problem with the mount on mine is there's a loose connection - when the Go is nudged upwards a little, the power is disconnected. Unfortunately, the way this tomtom works is that if the machine is run off the external power, when the power is turned off, the tomtom turns off too. The upshot of this is that the unit is occasionally vibrated during normal use and the power disconnects, and it switches off. Other people have reported this problem on this forum too.
7. There are some nice features like auto-dimming the screen in the dark, and switching to night view at night.
8. When bluetooth is on, it always routes your phone's audio through it. I'm not sure how to stop the phone's audio from being routed through the phone and jus allow the data connection to work. Or for that matter, how I could get the data connection to use one phone, and the audio bluetooth to use another phone.
Hope this helps
