|

Hi all,
Have had TTN5 working (relatively) pain free for the last few months on my XDAIIi with Wired GPS, but have just lately encountered some problems...My installation worked flawlessly at first, however started to play up in the last month or so. I upgraded to V5.2 to see if this made a difference but still the same problems.
1. When downloading Traffic updates, TomTom locks. Not every time, but about 80% of the time. It seems worse if I start TomTom with Traffic enabled already. Have to do a soft reset and restart TomTom, more often than not, it will then do exactly the same again and again...
2. With Traffic disabled, TomTom still sometimes locks - no reason, just freezes intermittently.
3. Can take ages to get a GPS lock even when having just done a restart (so it should know where it is already).
I have now (unfortunately) become dependent on my Sat Nav for my job so all this is proving quite frustrating! Any advice much appreciated... |

if it was working before t might just need a format ..but i would persoanally buy a trancend 80x sd card that has been proven to work extreamly well with tom tom _________________ TomTom 5001 |

OK this might sound silly but how exactly do you format the card?
I am currently still using the TomTom supplied card....I suppose I need to get a new card...copy TomTom to that SD card and then reformat the original TomTom card.............or just use the new card???
Incidentally since I do not have a card reader is it possible to format the card any other way?
Thanks... _________________ XDA2i

Hi Andy,
I'm new to this game. I am having similar problems. TTN 5.21 just freezes, seemingly randomly on my XDA IIs. (I have tried turning of POI, and also tried closing other software down, but this doesn't help).
I notice you mention a "transcend 80x sd card". What is this, where can I buy one, and most importantly, how does this differ from a standard SD card?
Thanks |

Tarquinius, Welcome to the forum, before you go off purchasing another SD card could I sugest you have a read of the following thread, it is specific to the XDAIIs, I have never had a problem with SD card speed with this device BUT I have had other problems which caused the unit to freeze - since sorting it out I am happy to report it is a great bit of kit

H Mike,
Thanks very much for your advice. I've removed the O2 active interface and so far this seems to have solved all my problems with tomtom.
Thank you.
I notice that you have a suction mount for your xda IIs. Would you recommend your mount, and if so could you give more details of what you have? And is your mount powered?
Thanks again. |

The mount I use for the IIs is a non powered suction attached to the windscreen. They are avail from O2 and cost just under £20, quite sturdy and the unit doesn't bounce around when fitted. I have had worse units, this one is OK.
To power the unit whilst in the mount I have a car charger lead that also couples to the Fuzion GPS unit (gives me the option not to use the BT, which at night is handy because I hate the bluetooth LEDs) - Mike |

A good way to prove if it's your card causing you probs is remove the card when it freezes.
If TomTom springs back into life then you need a new card :D |

Use the stylus to prod the reset switch for about three seconds, at the same time hold down the power on/ off button.
This will wipe everything from the device, as it puts it back to the same condition as when you first bought it new. Mike |

I use Sprite back-up software on the Phone to create a back-up which can then be re-installed, the problem is this method will replace any defects back on to the machine - I would take the opertunity to re-load the software from the desktop PC, then make a good back-up for future use - Mike |
