MIO268 Use in Europe

I have got a set of European maps for the MIO268 with firmaware upgrade. I have flashed the firmware upgrade and loaded the maps and it seems to work. Doesn't know where it is of couse. I cannot however use my Australian maps. MIO have told me that the European 268 and the Australion 268 are different. I don't care if I have to reload the australian firmware to use it here but does anyone know if it will work when I get to Europe?
