Hi,

Please can someone outline the instructions for rolling back from version 3.00 (which is worse than 2.9 on my unit!!) to 2.70? 3.0 is USELESS - unit locks up, gives a blank white map, stays on 100% for ages when calculating, and is very slow to update map all the time.

I have already downloaded StreetPiloti3_270.exe from a link I discovered on this forum.

I have the latest POIs saved on my machine so loading these again will not be a problem.

However, I understand that rolling back will remove all the device settings such as MyFavourites, and the actual system settings etc. How do I back them up first?

Then, how do I actually install 2.70? Just connect my i3 to my PC as normal then double click the exe file I have downloaded?

Cheers in advance.

save your favourites using easygps (search other topics of similar scenario). or if not to many re install yourself as you initially did once reverted back.

once reverted back system settings will be same as when you first switched i3 on ie voice settings etc will need to be changed to what language you want, time settings ...........so they are not lost they revert back to default settings.

downloading 2.7 follow this direct lift from 2.7 download instructions which may have been downloaded to your pc when you did it.

Instructions for uploading the new software to your i3/5 using
Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP:

1) It is recommended that you disable screen savers or other programs running
on your PC while you go through the update process. Disruptions to the
update process may render your GPS inoperable. If the transfer is
interrupted, turn off the GPS and then turn it back on. Reboot your PC, go
to step #9 and attempt the download again. GARMIN is not responsible for
failed downloads of operating software to the GPS and factory resetting the
GPS unit will fall under our Flat Rate Repair Policy.

2) Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer.

3) Choose a location where you can easily locate the file by saving it to a
location such as the "My Documents" folder or to "C:\".

4) Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.

5) Locate the downloaded file and double-click on it. This will launch the
Win-Zip Self Extractor. This program compresses the data to allow for a
faster download of the needed files.

6) A program window will appear asking you where to "Un-zip" the files. This is
by default C:\Garmin. You can change this location if you like. Be sure to
note where the un-zipped files are going to allow you to find them!

7) Click on the button labeled "Un-zip".

8) Once the un-zip process is complete, click on the "Close" button to exit the
Win-Zip Self Extractor.

9) Connect your GPS to your computer using a GARMIN PC Interface cable to an
open USB port. Turn the GPS on.

10) If your computer asks for a driver, please see the software and installation
instructions that came with your device, or download and install the USB driver
from Garmin's website at www.garmin.com.

11) If your GPS supports configuration of the USB format, verify that the USB Format
is set to GARMIN (refer to your owner's manual for instructions).

12) Open the C:\Garmin folder (or other folder where you un-zipped the files), locate
the file named 'Updater' and double click on it.

13) You should see the name of your GPS device next to the 'USB Device' option on the
Updater program window. Select the 'USB Device' option, then click on 'OK' on the
Updater program window to start the data transfer.

hope this helps. now going for a power nap.

Many thanks - I am now back on version 2.7.

Hope next version from Garmin will be better than 2.9 and 3.0!!

Lost all my Recent Finds in the process, but no big deal.

And discovered EasyGPS now which is a bonus.

Cheers.
