Probably a dumb question

Sorry if this is a totally stupid question....but a colleague asked me, and I couldnt answer it:-

Given that the mapping info is installed on an SD card, and that it is readable on a PC.........is there any PC based software which can make use of the data in the way that, say, "autoroute" plans routes?

Maps are stored in a proprietary format, exactly to prevent what your colleague was asking about.

TomTom have no plans to release the Windows version of their Navigator to the public.
