I have a problem with my 700, last week I was using it as a handsfree and it was navigating, went off route to aviod a jam and it crashed, sgreeching noise and then took ages to come back on.

When it did it had lost all my favourites and home location.

I have been trying to add an itinery this afternoon and it is now saying file access error and will not let me save it. When I connected it to my computer it has again wiped all my favourites and home locations.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Cheers

Charlie

Sounds like it could be a hard drive crash which means returning it to TomTom but someone else may have a less drastic solution.

Good luck

Have you done a FULL Backup of the 700?

If you have, then try a Format and then Restore from the Backup.

When the Program crashed it was possibly writing an update to the .cfg File, in the Map Folder. The leaves a File half written and the wrong information in the FAT. This creates a File that can be seen but gives a 'File Access Error'.

The .cfg File holds, among other things, your Personal Settings; Favourites, Home Location, etc.

Can anyone advise how to format the Go 700 Hard Drive.

I have a smilar problem where the unit resets and then decides some file is missing, most recently a map configuration file which led to the unit saying no map installed.

It's all ok after restoring from back up but turns the Go into a rather expensive and useless door stop for the rest of the journey home.

Didn't do the format but did the restore and it said it could not do it but the problem is now resolved.

Should I send it back to tom tom for them to do it?

In Explorer, Right Click the Drive that is TomTom, and choose Format from the Options.

To Restore, just Copy/Paste the Full Backup to the 700.

Just make sure that it is a Full Backup (about 1.3GB), and not just the Personal Settings Backup. It will take some time, so be patient.;)
