Being a previous owner of INS v1.2 with the Navman sleeve..I thought I would go the software upgrade route to v3, but still use the Navman.

Paying my £178 (Inc Vat) entitles me to two CD's and a sheet of paper giving installation intructions..no box or other packaging ... hhhmm ok.

Cd1 for the main app install went smoothly I choose not to install Livewire yet. Cd2 is the map CD. When prompted I put the Cd in, and clicked next..oops warning do not start installing Cd2 until the drive has recognised it..I had lots of errors with the drive not recognising the CD..so much so my PC froze and needed re-booting. Also worth noting if you use the Navman sleeve..You will need to install the Navman drivers which are located on the cd..it tells you in the readme, but its not that obvious.

Once all installed on desktop I had the task of transfering the maps to CF card. After selecting the whole of the UK (Including Quickstart files) this came to 110MB. This took about 30 minutes .. so all in all probably 1.5hours to uninstall old version, delete desktop app, delete old map data on CF card and install.

Once Copilot is then launched it needs to be activated by registering to the website (If in the cradle its done automatic)..there are also warnings about the region of map data you select for activation, as this is locked into the activation process..and remains locked even after a hard reset.

Onto the package. Used it today to work and am very impressed. It is a great improvement over the v1.2 If only for the better interface, improved response times,clearer/updated maps and no crackle in the speech.

In v1.2 sometimes the route calculation leaved alot to be desired and the detour calculation sometimes took you off a junction of a motorway only to find it bring you back on just round the corner, now in v3 both these problems seem to be solved. I planned various routes and all seemed to take the best way. In v3 you also have the choice to choose Quickest vs Shortest..once again trying it against routes I do quite a lot made it come up with some good suggestions.

Overall I am very pleased with the product..and will try the 30 day free livewire trial just for traffic.

Matt
