Running multiple GPS programs

Is it possible to run another program that receives data from a bluetooth gps while TomTom is running? I want to write some position-aware software that receives its position from the GPS, but don't want to give up the ability to run TomTom at the time.

Has anyone had any success in doing this?

You cannot have two programs receiving the same data from the same GPS Receiver. You can on a handheld GPS like a Garmin or Magellan with some special cables, but not on a Bluetooth connection. Technically only one program can open the COM port and receive data on it at any one time. Unless you were to write a very advanced multiplexer software program to get around this.
