I am looking to buy the Tom Tom Rider but I am unsure which maps it comes with.

I also have a full set of European CD's (version 5) and wanted to know if I can put these on the Rider unit if they are not already installed

Thanks

The RIDER in Europe comes with one region of NAVTEQ maps, although it can also use TeleAtlas maps.

The UK one has UK and Northern Ireland (No Republic) and the Channel Islands, too, IIRC. Other regions are BeNeLux, France and Andorra, DACh, Spain and Portugal, Italy and Scandinavia.

Two things spring to mind with your V5 maps. Firstly, if it is a set of Western Europe maps, this is considered an add-on which might require the presence of an individual activated map first. (I don't know, but would be surprised if you could use the activated NAVTEQ map as a qualifying product.)

Secondly, assuming you are able to activate the maps for a RIDER, you should only use these maps on one device (not even 'one device at a time).

Thanks for the info, so if i but from UK I get UK, you say that the rider uses Navtek maps. I live on Guernsey which is not covered by TOM TOM 5 which is a pain as the island is a nightmare to find your way road but I belive Co Pilot works. I did not realise that TOMTOM5 and Rider use different software

Well, Guernsey and Jersey are on the NAVTEQ maps of the UK on my RIDER. TeleAtlas don't have them as far as I'm aware. CoPilot and Garmin Que do, but they both use NAVTEQ data, too.

I don't know how comprehensive they are, as I've never been to the Channel Islands but, if you give me some addresses, I'll see if they are on the map if you like?

Hi,

I also live on Guernsey - and use a Garmin cf que and also a nuvi 350. They use respectively Garmin V7 and V8 maps both of which have full street level detail of Guernsey and Jersey.

Sounds interesting that the Rider supports CI maps because I would like to move to the tomtom range, and currently have the nuvi for sale, but would like to retain the local maps.
