Ironic, really, isn't it...

They being seemingly unable to communicate effectively, internally as a company over this, has effectively demanded an amateur user community to do it on their behalf...

Sometimes, life - it's odd.

Just a thought but as some of us (me included) seem to be using 2.90 without any problems, whilst others have had nothing but problems, I wonder if the updated Garmin Web Updater program is in any way involved here.

I suggest this in the light of my experience a couple of days ago whilst using it to upload a later update of operating s/w for my eTrex handheld unit. Although it was running v3.2 and the latest update is 3.3 on the Garmin website, Web Updater was firmly telling me that there was no update available.

On querying this situation with Garmin by phone I was told this problem can occasionally happen, although they did not know why and I was advised to install the update manually. This I did.

So, clearly there is at least one problem with the latest Web Updater and so I'm left wondering how its use (and which version of it) correlates (if at all) with the problems being experienced by many.

i have both 2.31 dated 14/3 and 2.32 dated 20/3 on my pc.
i am led to believe that when 2.9 came out we were advised to use the latest, 2.32 version which i did.
problems were such i went back to beta 2.82, but problems showed when the new language upgrade crashed on me, as it did with others.

could this have been a warning ?

is someone prepared to run 2.9 uploading with both 2.31 then 2.32 then reporting back with the findings.
i would volunteer by my usage over the next few weeks would not do the test any justice.

I certainly updated Webupdater to latest version before the Firmware - as one who's not experiencing probs with v2.90 - if that helps?

I think I updated fist but may be wrong.

I have rolled back to 2.7 then manually updated to 2.9 without the language patches and will test tonight.

Tested and not really noticed any difference other than possibly a Short Screen Freeze (but that may have happened before).

Going to go back to the Web Updater Update for now, if anything it seems slightly better.

Trouble is that there are so many permutations here. For instance I manually deleted the previous version of Web Updater before downloading the new one. Did this make a difference? I'm running W98 SE. Did this make a difference?

There does have to be an explanation as to why apparently identical units seem to behave so differently in spite of running the same software (or should I say what ought to be the same software).

Hope Garmin are looking into all these possibilities!

Went online to update to v2.9 after getting the news email from Garmin. The new version of Webupdater installed first then 2.9.

I haven't had some of the problems that other people have mentioned ie: screen crashes, but I do find that turn warnings are far too early now compared to previous version especially the last voice prompt before a turn (though I don't always seem to get it now). I know that this might partly be personal preference, but I do find it confusing to now get the last voice prompt the turn before the one I need especially on a roundabout. The timing on the previous version worked great for me.

I used v2.9 for the first proper time yesterday and I have to agree with a lot of people the new voice prompt timing is terrible.

I was travelling through a small village with many roads leading off from the main road. When the i3 said to turn left it was really difficult to comprehend which actual turn it was trying to indicate without scrutinising the display.

The only time these new voice prompts seem to be better was on a motorway. The turn left at 0.2 miles when travelling at motorway speeds seems more useful as there is no ambiguity as to what turn you need to take and also gives you a final warning to get left for your junction.

I haven't had any problems with other glitches but the voice prompt changing is too severe. I think I'm going to go back to 2.7 and tell Garmin that the voice prompting is poor.

I found the .9 upgrade caused the prompts to be late and, apparently, I rolled backward at junctions at about 5 feet a second (I think the chap behind me would have noticed, since we were in convoy at the time.) Smile

Gone back to the .7 revision.

Well spotted, I only looked this afternoon and it was still showing 2.90, lets hope this one has addressed the issues that have plagued some units

Sad Still have to select Country before starting off - don't see why they haven't made that a "Settings" option!
