hi all

deep depression setting in here. I was forced to do a hard reset yesterday. tried to down load back up from pc but couldn't get pc to create a partnership with ipaq (2210).
wizard starts and checks the com ports, finds usb as available and then sits there doing nothing. have reinstalled activesync, removed all other usb hardware, deleted old partnerships.........clutching at straws.

I have tried to sync on my work laptop also (which i do normally) and this wont work either.

therefore suspect problem is in ipaq.

any suggestions.

even contemplating contacting HP about sending it in for them to have a look at.

any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Manually start \windows\repllog.exe on the pocket PC while connecting to the PC. Mybe your notification database is corrupt.

Lutz
thanks for the reply.

I gave it a try as follows

on ppc
file explorer->open-> \windows\repllog.exe

no joy I'm afraid I got the message USB status:connecting to host

(found two repllog files in explorer one is 132K and the other is 16B is this normal? opening either of them causes the message above.)

then nothing happens.

also after a hard reset shouldn't the ppc return to the state it was when first bought? I appear to have odd bits of info left over eg various theme file names and references to tomtom files.

Hi grimbo,

I had a problem with "This device name is already in use", and MrT gave some very good advice in this thread. Just a thought, hope it helps.

Regards,

Privateer thanks.

tried the registry delete - it wouldn't let me and I can't find the Application data folder (still looking).

however I did get some success with Lutz' suggestion with the repllog.exe. I got the message "Unknown device. Device has malfunctioned & windows does not recognise it". sounds serious I know but at least the the PC has seen the the PPC this time. Device manager suggests a driver problem but I don't know where to get a new one from.

HP have suggested another hard reset and then that it goes in for repair.

In the meantime I am trawling forums such as this for other clues.

thanks for the reply.

uninstall ActiveSync, remove the PPC from the cradle, re-install ActiveSync. That should fix the "unknown device" issue

tried the above and failed.
found the application data and registry entries - did both of these - failed again.
reinstall AS numerous times -failed
installed AS 3.8 - failed
got a BT mobile phone and synched the phonebook into contacts ok. :D

then got a BT dongle, PC can see PPC but I still cant create a partnership via active synch.

can I get a sopy of the notification database you talked about and load it in via an SD card?

pretty sure problem is in PPC.

if the backup battery goes flat will this revert everything back to shipping state or will there still be remnants of files/info lying around. doing a hard reset doesn't seem to remove all of my files as I was expecting. I have tried restoring from Sprite backup but I get a file corrupted message.

running out of ideas now. £170 for a repair through HP and £75 for PCWorld to have a look and then repairs extra.

any advice folks...... Crying or Very sad

if you can afford a hard reset (losing all the data ) then do that - this will get the PPC back into an activesyncable [sic] state.

You mean it didn't work after the hard reset? Then it is not a Pocket PC problem...

Anyhow, you can use check_notifications.exe to look into the notifications database (try google)

have done a hard reset and then tried to use AS on 3 different PC's after doing all the reinstall, registry & App data bits & pieces.

Does anyone recall any postings concerning hardware failure of the ppc?

I can get files (pictures and contacts) in & out of the ppc via BT and IR to a mobile phone but AS is not having it at all to the PC. The common link between all 3 PC's is the Ipaq but I'm not a techie and not sure whats inside it.

many thanks to those who have posted solutions so far Me Me Me

just a thought.... when you are working through the connection wizard in activesynch do you need the ipaq in the cradle for the PC to find the new hardware or should it find the hardware without it? I have tried it with/without and the PC doesnt appear to see the cradle, but when you run the wizard I get the "USB available" message in the list of options. Question

tried a different cradle in 2 laptops and a PC, thats why i suspect the problems in the ipaq. Of the 3 computers 1 laptop & 1 PC had been used for synching without problems prior to the original hard reset, the 3rd laptop was a virgin install.

thanks for the reply
