I have been very happy with Co-pilot so far, sure there are a few bugs, but we get used to them.

However, just started getting som eweird routes going north from the hampshire area. It seems to favour the M4, A419, A41, M5 in trips between the A34 & the M6.

Try aroute from Rownhams Services (on the M27) to Charnock Richard services (on the M6). Previously it favoured M3, M25, M40, M42, M6 Toll, so anyone know why it has changed??

Is it a timebomb to upgrade to V6??

I suspect you are not going to like this! Copilot Live 6 gives:

Quickest route:
M3, M25, M1, M6, M6 Toll, M6

Shortest route:
M3, A34, A419, A417, M5, M6

These routes are with default settings... of course you can tweak the settings or add waypoints...

Hmmmm, strange, if I tweak the settings to shortest, it takes an even more bizarre route, including B roads. Maybe the settings have got corrupted at some point.

I suspect that your quickest route on V6 is similar to what V5 would have previously given, it did seem to favour the M25 & the M6 Toll.

thanks for your response

This has been a problem with CoPilot since the release of V5, the shortest route is broken, and the quickest route will always take you via motorways. To get it to take you by the shortest route you need to add waypoints to force CP 5 to go the route you want. I usually preplan them on the PC first and then copy the trip file to the PPC.
In actual fact the shortest route from Rownhams Services (on the M27) to Charnock Richard services (on the M6) is M27 - M3 - A34 - M40 - M42 - M6(Toll) - M6.

Just a note on how to use waypionts in CoPilot.

If you are adding them by picking the point on a map, and the road you are selecting is a dual carriageway, make sure that you zoom in and place the waypoint just to the side of the correct carriageway, not on the carriageway, or definately not in the central reservation.

For some reason, the position which gets stored is not exactly the one you have selected; but by following this suggestion, you should avoid being taken off at a junction and turned around and returning down the 'wrong' carriageway simply to reach your waypoint.

Using waypoints, I have also encountered issues when placing them in the centre of roundabouts - so avoid doing that.

Another thing to consider, is that when you reach a waypoint, the system will 're-calculate', so for a short time you will get no directions. Knowing this, it doesn't take too many brain cells to work out, that they are best placed just after, rather than just before a turn,

Unless you can place a waypoint in the middle of a stretch of single carriageway well away from any turns, you will probably need different waypoints for your return journey.
