Also change your battery settings.

For rechargeable batteries, p25 of the online Garmin StreetPilot i3 User's Manual (a 1.41 MB PDF download) recommends that if rechargeable batteries are chosen, then high capacity NiMH batteries (2300+ mAh) should be used.
Note that there is some scepticism that the highest-capacity AA rechargeable batteries (2700, 2750 mAh) actually give the power they state under the standard test conditions. And they are often surprisingly more expensive.

I have some of Maplins 2000 ma/h batteries, Garmin reccomend using 2300 ma/h's in the instructions, but at £1 a go for the slightly less capacity batteries I couldnt resist.
I'm estimating now, but I got about 4 hours worth of life from a charge.
The setting for ordinary or rechargeable batteries in the menu, determins at what point it alerts you to a low battery, as rechargeables are 1.2 volts, and alkalines are 1.5 volts.
Maplins code is N04BW, and they are on a 2 packs for 1 deal at the moment.

As I have said before I use standard 800mAh NiMh batteries and go about 2 weeks between recharges using it in what I would call a normal usage pattern.
I personally think that as long as you mostly have it powered by the car there is no need to go spending lots of money on high capacity batteries. Obviously if you use the batteries for virtually any navigation at all then the money would be well spent.
