Navman GPS 500 - "GPS cannot fix position / deliver dat

I am using a palm m515 with SmartPath installed

Bought a nice Navman GPS 500 off of ebay

When i attach it and run SmartPath i get two errors in the drop down menu, please could anybody enlighten me?

Is the device broken? I've sat outside with it for a several minutes and to no avail it just hops between the two messages.

"gps does not deliver data" and "GPS cannot fix position"

there is a program upgrade
