Hi all, i seem to remember in a previous thread that there is a free downloadable UK map that will work with the i3? i would like to put it on my spare transflash so i can still use my i3 while i'm waiting for the v8 update to come back. a link would be appreciated. Cheers! :D

So whenever a map change is needed, (and surely that's going to be quite often), the disk will have to be sent back to Garmin or it will become obsolete?
Doesn't sound the most cost effective way to me!

maps are updated once per year. they don't normally give upgrades for free though, only this time as the maps came out not long after the i3 was released.

i can't see you needing a new map that frequently... up until i got my i3 i was using a paper map from 1998 - did the job just fine!

But the card will need to be sent back ... so i3 not useable until it's returned ... every year if I choose to upgrade it that frequently?

True, except that I'll probably take more notice of "the voice" so needing it to be up-to-date!

this appears to be a one-off - keeps costs down by not having to manufacture new cards. i assume for future upgrades you would simnply buy a v9 UK & Ireland transflash card.

Yes they did. I just put "i3 update, Freepost, Garmin" on it

Cost £3.85 and have just checked and it arrived this morning. Sent at 12.30pm yesterday and arrived before 9.45am. Well worth it

so envelope marked:
i3 UPDATE
FREEPOST GARMIN

Contents:
sd card
envelope with own address on it

Does my new unit need to be registered with Garmin?

My old unit was returned to them with a fault, and they sent me a new unit within 5 working days. Unfortunately it has v7 maps, hence the need to send the card!!

Are all my poi's on there too?
