i read that navigator 5 is not compatible with a compact flash receiver.

if not then i might consider a bluetooth receiver but will my ipaq be able to pick up the signal if the receiver is in my pocket?

The iPaq will get whatever the receiver puts out within 10m or so. What the receiver sends depends what you buy and where you are. Receivers with SirfIII or RFMD chipsets will be able to maintain a fix in many cicunstances, but start adding more obstacles ie. indoors/tall surroundings/tree cover and overcast sky etc..the fix will eventually degrade. From experience the Nemerix chipset based receiver is more likeley to loose fix in these circumstances.

Did you use the 'remove bluetooth driver' fix? I went back to TT3 but haven't tried TT5 again with the 'fix'. My signal with my Axim 5 and CF gps was touch and go. Lost it on the motorway first time i used it and didn't pick up that many sattelites.?

No, I dont know anything about a remove BT fix.

I normally use it with a wired in GPS unit but if I change to the CF I simply insert the card and alter the GPS configuration to NMEA device.
I then restart TomTom and it recognioses the CF as an option in the GPS configuration. I select this and away it goes.

Does take quite a while to lock on though.

I have found an auxiliary aerial plugged in to the CF helps a lot.

Coincidentally I have used the CF card instead of my usual wired in GPS over the weekend and its started to drop out exactly as you desribed.

Cant think that I have done anything different so perhaps I have just been lucky.

Could you enlighten me as to what the "remove bluetooth driver fix" is please so I can try it.

Oddly, the CF card is showing up under the bluetooth configuration as well as the NMEA.

The Cf card is working OK with other GPS programs on the same mahine so it must be TomTom 5 at fault.

Found this on the TomTom support site.

http://www.tomtom.com/support/category.php?ID=3&Language=1&FID=3282

Seems to be working OK again now.

I assume it re-recognises the CF card on the soft reset and claims the port.

Hope this helps.

Be careful, some units still wont work. Had majopr problems with my new Axim x51v and CF, ended up sending it back.

Cheers

Me too. Never did get the CF GPS to work on x51v after extreme efforts. Ended up off loading it on Ebay with my phone & a BT receiver (which did work with it), then bought a Mio a701 with the proceeds. Well happy Smile
