Adding mp3 to your playlist in windows media

Hi, can anyone please help me? i want to add music into my playlist in windows media player running on wm5. I currently have my music stored on my sd card and i go to "menu" then "library", then "menu" again and then "open file".....then i select the folder on my sd card that i stored the music. But this shows music in "now playing" not "playlist".

the reason i want to add to playlist is because someone told me the only way for mp3 to play while using tomtom is to have them in the playlist. when i use tomtom, after playing the current song it does not jump to the next song. i need to exit tomtom before the next song starts. thanks:) Helen
