|

Over the past week, I have continually tried to plan a route to Lake Constance - Uberlingen, but each time I set up the route and try to view it, I get Assert Failure : ode\mapengine\engine\enmfile.c
Line :186 Test : exit0 called.The device then freezes.
This is just part of the journey, that I wish to undertake. All the appropriate european maps are loaded on the SD card and I don't now know what to do. I suspect - maybe I'm wrong - that it is something to do with the cross channel ferry part of the journey, although I have not blocked ferries or any part of the route.
Help please, please _________________ Gee-Pee

Hi Gee Pee
You still have all the base maps loaded.
I had a similar problem when I first had my 510. The Navman forum suggested that if I installed basemaps it may help, it did.

Yes, DRP I do still have the base maps loaded. However, I have not changed the european maps on the device since I came back from Croatia in the summer and most of the route is the same. When I did my summer journey, the route loaded immediately and brought me back to the UK without problem. The route I now require is only a fraction of the summer route yet it either give me the Assert failure or 'Out of Memory' I think I am going to have to plan the route in segments and only load what is required for each of the shorter segments unlesss I can rectify it by this evening. Thanks for your contribution. _________________ Gee-Pee

Hi Gee Pee
I see that your signature states "If it's not broken, why fix it." I think that time has come.
How clean do you keep your card.
I keep my card as clean as possible with regular visits to my data & delete recent.
I believe that all this data has to be stored some where, so assuming the 510 runs on Windows, so like a home PC a thorough clean of its cache files dose it no harm, I treat my 510 like my home PC.
Perhaps my theory is wrong, but I have not come across any memory issues as yet, even on my 512 SD card.
Just had a thought are you running V3 & V3.5 maps together on 2005 software
Regards

Good points DRP. No I have not upgraded to the v3.5 yet - maybe I wont as that is quite a bit of cash for me! Yes, I do delete 'Recent' destinations and also I am quite severe with the number of Favourites I keep. If I don't use it regularly, then it goes. All sensible housekeeping. I guess the problem this time is that I am asking too much of the device - I will try shortish legs on the journey - say around 300 miles at a time and see how it reacts if, when I get over the channel, it stillplays up.

GeePee - this sounds very much like a problem I had last year. I finally worked out that if there is a ferry crossing and a toll road on the route then the unit does this.
NB I think the problem is averted if you untick a warning for toll roads or maybe ferry crossings - can't remember which and I can't find my old posting to confirm but give it a try and see what happens. |

Won't know until across the channel! But the next thing to go wrong is that we bought an external arial/antenna from M*****n who assured me it was the correct one for the navman 510. I asked for assurance it was a MMMCX and they said yes. Just opened the packet and guess what? it's a MMCX so the plug wont fit. Will just have to rely on the unit antenna - often does work but just wanted reassurance. Will report back in about ten days.
PS Will then be off to Turin for the Paralympic Games :P _________________ Gee-Pee
