is the basmap still necessary when I dload the delails map? meaning can I uncheck the basemap in the preference memorycard.

thanks

You can uncheck it if you want; it'll still be there if you need it.

The point of the basemap is to provide mainroad routing between non-contiguous maps or quicker routing between contiguous maps. As an example of the latter, say you want to travel from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jonesboro, Arkansas. You only have the maps of La. and Ar. on your device, and don't have the basemap enabled, so you could only be routed on roads in those two states. If you did have the basemap enabled, you could be routed over the quicker and shorter I-55 up to Memphis, taking you through two states (Ms. and Tn.) you don't have maps for.

Enabling fewer maps takes up less memory so your routing and rerouting times should be quicker.
