Is it possible to change the Tom Tom One's spoken words? I don't mean voices. I want to change the word 'yards' to 'meters'.

This was easily accomplished on my PDA version simply by renaming the wav files. But these appear to be integrated into a single file on the TT One.

It's in the manual, mate.
Change preferences / Set units
Says "Miles" or "Kilometres" but actually means "Imperial" or "Metric"

i think it depends on which voice you use i think also have you tried us english in stead of uk english

What I want is UK English but the options are miles/yards or km/meters.

I would like miles/meters, so I need to be able to edit the voice files.

Is this possible?

Yes you can.
You need to "un-bundle" the voice file to extract the .ogg audio files, re-edit them and then re-bundle them all back together.

Although I realise that the voicefiles on my Garmin i3 can't be edited - I've thought that it would be quite jolly to build a Dads Army themed voice file for models that can use such - imagine the possibilities: "We're doomed!" for a speedcam POI or "Stupid Boy!" if a turning missed... Laughing

I have tried this and it works however the voice I want to change is the default voice 5.

When I run the viftool command viftool split data05.vif

I get the following and no "then.ogg" file is created. I only get 58 and not 59 files. Consequently I get an error when I try to re-compile. Any ideas?

just use the file from a different voice. Some of the OGG files are compressed, and the Viftool can't decompress them.

Well first I just replaced the data05.vif file with a renamed vif file from a voice where I have swapped yards for meters. Nothing happens and the voice still says yards.

Then I added the then.ogg file from another voice to the original data05.vif and again the voice still says yards.

Finally I replaced the data05.chk file with a rename chk file from a voice where I have swapped yards for meters and now the word then is in the wrong voice!

Please can you tell me exactly what I should be doing. All I want is for the voice to say miles & meters and not miles & yards.

you just cannot do what you want to do with your voice. Nobody has deciphered the compressed OGG yet, and therefore whenever TomTom decide to compress certain OGG files you will not be able to extract them. Live with it.

vif files have no part in this piece. You waste time fiddling with them.

So to summarise, because the TT Jane voice is compressed I can not fully open it to change Yard to Meters and there is no way to do what I want.
