Hi all,
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to GPS PDAs but I've just ordered the Fujitsu -Siemens LOOX N520 PDA with WIFI and GPS.
I was wondering what's the best free software to use to convert my DVD's to a format best suited to a PDA, i.e a screen resolution of 320x240, I assume this is best done in Divx. I'd also like to take some Divx movies made on my digicamera and downsize them in resolution. Is there some good free software available?
I'm also interested in finding out where all the WIFI hotspost are locally, is there some good software that will log the positions of WIFI spots, so I can view them on a map?
Is there any "must have" software that I (a geek with a PDA/GPS) should also be aware of?
Thanks all.

For DivX/XVid you use VirtualDub, for WMV you can use Windows Media Encoder 9 _________________ Lutz

I use PocketDivXEncoder (freeware) http://divx.ppccool.com/
To be truthful I have not tried it on PPC but use it for my Archos AV400.
It has built in target device presets for the VirtualDub engine so requires little attention to get the results. Also one of the fastest I have tried. It will transcode a movie rip in about 60% realtime (720x576). |

Cheers guys, they look like a good range of options (PocketDivXEncoder looks easy to use, and VirtualDub looks like a good tool for tinkering). I might keep it simple and go for PocketDivXEncoder/Lathe, as I'm after a simple solution.
Thanks. |

Virtual dub is quick, easy and free.
Would sugggest using DivX or Xvid codec, with something like 150-200 kps data rate.
TCPMP player is just great to play the movies with !
cheers
