GPRS Connections

Tom Tom successfully connects via BT and my mobile to the tom tom traffic system.

However, I have noticed that Tom Tom keeps the data connection open at all times and then occasionally it updates the traffic via this open connection.

My mobile phone polls my email server every 15 mins to download emails, but it can not do this while Tom Tom is connected, nor can I browse the internet on my phone via GPRS at the same as TT is connected. It says another data service is connected.

It would appear that TT connects to GPRS in a slightly different way because when it is connected my GPRS connection symbol looks a little different to normal. (normally it is a G symbol and with TT it is 2 arrows.) If TT connected with the G symbol my email polling would word correctly.

So does TT use a different GPRS connection to the phone's standard?

I have binded my phone automatically and manually a dozen times and the same thing happens. I have even used Orange GPRS and Orange Wap settings but it's still the same.
