Good position in a Seat Toledo

I've found that, for me, the best position for the iCN520 is to mount it just under the RH side of the rear view mirror. This gives:
Benefits-
1. Easy to view (glancing at the mirror often anyway).
2. Unit does not obstruct any ground/road (only the sky)
3. Sucker disk does not encroach on drivers viper are A, and only ca. 20mm of area B (believe this makes it legal - see posting about legality in this forum)
4. Unit much nearer than when mounted at bottom of windscreen, thus easier to read
5. No need to fork out on a 'Bradit' holder.
6. Still locks on satelites ok.
Drawbacks-
None

This solution may well be suitable in other car makes.

The drawback I see is that if (and when) the sucker loses 'suck', the unit has a long way to fall. I have mine just to my right near the side window so that the bracket leans on the top of the dash. The sucker has come loose once or twice and the whole thing just drops a couple of inches onto the top of the dash.

Hi kjelln,

I tried your method next to rear view mirror today, and I thought it was OK. On french TV the other day they were showing in car satnavs built in to a large rear view mirror, so why not?

The only problem I see is when I have to put the sun visor down, the satnav gets in the way. Also the wire extending down but that's in my opinion a minor one, as you can take it out once charged and put it back later to keep the battery charged if on a long journey.

The position to the right of the driver (left for me) is not bad but gets too much reflection of light There is little reflection next to the rear view mirror.

Better than forking out for new mounts!

Simon1. In case the 'sucker stops sucking', just keep a short lanyard (elastic) round the mirror arm and attached to the holder. Won't have so far to fall then.

Just a warning, apparrently, under currrent legislation, the position you have chosen could lead to a heafty fine.

Mine actually sits overlapping the rear-view mirror which itself is quite wide, therefore leaving plenty of rear vision in the mirror. Only half the unit protrudes, and is not easily seen from outside the car. It's not where I really want it though, so I'm working on the 'plastic disk stuck to the dashboard with Navman mount stuck to disk using suction pad method'

PS. When I was in the police, the last thing that would have interested me would be people driving with something in their windscreen! But to be fair, there are those in the job that will.
